Today is the 1st of July 2020 and last month Ffion turned 2 years old.
I don’t have very many photos or videos from the day on my phone as I decided when Ffion was born to make a home video with a camcorder, so she had something to look at later on in life (I LOVE my family home videos) so everything is on there. We had a lovely day, even if it was a ‘Lock Down’ birthday.
I decided to get all Mary Berry for my little girl…
From the moment we woke up, to the moment she went to sleep we had staggered visitors all day coming to wish the birthday girl a great day, dropping off presents and cards and also getting a piece of her mum’s homemade birthday cake (which, I may add was my first ever attempt and would like to say right here that it was a huge success!.. Please see proof below if you are thinking ‘she’s sooo lying’).
It was such a messy job and I moaned the whole way through, but I’m so happy with the way it came out. My mum always made our birthday cakes as kids and we loved them, so I wanted to keep up the family tradition. There were a few hiccups with me not buying enough ingredients, baking paper and not having a clue how to put the paper in a number 2 shaped tin… But we got there in the end.
Always happens to me! I never read the small print…
Another ‘It could only happen to you Lynne’ moment was the number 2 foil balloon that I bought for the occasion. Now, if you follow my social media pages (please do if you can, that would be lovely) then you will have followed the disaster. I bought, what I thought was a large foil number 2 balloon. I didn’t think to check it until 8pm the night before the big day. Honestly! I should really start to read the small print!!
What a disaster!!
Off I went to Asda at ridiculous o’clock (while leaving Phill to finish off the cake) to get a bigger balloon! I had to laugh.. The amount of times I’ve ordered things on line and they have turned up either too big or way too small is embarrassing! I bought a NY baseball cap a few years back and when it arrived it was a toddlers!! See? I’m not to be trusted with online shopping! ha!
Stopping for a minute and realising that 2 years has just flown by..
It’s not until this week that I’ve really sat down and thought about the fact that I have had a daughter in my life for the last 2 years. It’s really true what they say.. ‘One minute they’re in nappies, the next it’s their graduation’. You’re so busy working, being a girlfriend, friend, yourself, sister etc that the weeks roll into one. Someone asked me today how many weeks I am and when I replied “25 weeks on Friday” they pointed out that I was 8 weeks when this lockdown started!! It’s crazy!
I’ve loved watching my daughter grow. There has been ups and down, highlights and struggles along the way but with the maturity that the grand old age of 2 has brought I really can see her personality finally shining through. She’s shy, wary and sometimes stubborn around others but in these last few days even me and Phill have noticed how she’s begun showing off in front of family. Trying to make them laugh. That’s definitely a personality trait she gets from me! Never shy of a performance, or a camera for that matter. I really love seeing her smiling, laughing, causing mischief (ok, well not always.. But you know what I mean). I just want to make sure that she knows how loved she is before her sister comes along in October.
So, I’ve thought long and hard about the higlights of the last 2 years, but it’s just too much to share in one blog post. The last 2 years have been amazing with my little best mate so I thought I’d put together a little video for you guys instead. I’m not one to be soppy and sentimental too much but I’ll share this piece of information with you.. This made me cry. She’s amazing and fought so hard in the first few days of her life and I just know that she will always be the best thing (along with her sister) that has ever happened to me (you just know I’m going to test that theory when my girls are mouthy teenagers and causing me endless days of worry ha!).
So, here’s to a great 2 years Ffion Mair! I love you more than you’ll ever know or understand xx
